ADMdx completes milestones to detect and differentiate Repetitive Head Impact effects, Alzheimer’s Disease, and other dementias under its Phase II SBIR grant

May 15, 2025

ADMdx has successfully achieved the development objectives of its Phase II grant toward a diagnostic tool to detect and differentiate the effects of Repetitive Head Impact (RHI). RHI, incurred in contact sports, military blast, and other circumstances, can lead to significant clinical symptoms that in some cases transition to Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE). This is a progressive disease for which there is currently no diagnosis other than autopsy. In collaboration with Dr. Charles Bernick, PI of the Professional Fighters Brain Health Study (PABHS), Dr. Robert Stern, PI of the DIAGNOSE CTE study of retired football players, and others, ADMdx has applied advanced methods to analyze imaging data from over 1,000 athletes. This work, the first to combine data from these two major studies, has led to increased understanding of the effects of RHI on the brain across diverse types of head contact, and progress toward a diagnostic tool that can be used to aid patient care during life.
