Using highly sophisticated machine learning (pattern recognition) technology, ADMdx is developing diagnostic tools to enable earlier, more accurate identification of neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disorders. These tools use standard brain images, such as MRI or PET scans, and can also include other types of big data. Some of our applications are below:
Enabling early and accurate diagnosis for a new standard of care.
Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias
Alzheimer’s disease causes progressive loss of memory, judgment, and daily functioning over a period of up to twenty years. However, symptoms are not detectable in the earliest stages of disease, there are several other potential causes of dementia, and patients are frequently misdiagnosed even in later, symptomatic stages. ADMdx is using pattern recognition to detect characteristic patterns of change to brain structure, function, and physiology that are caused by Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases. ADMdx’s analyses are currently being used in pharmaceutical studies for patient selection and treatment effect detection, and are being developed for use in clinical care.
Traumatic Brain Injury
Head trauma acquired through sports, falls, military blast exposure, accidents, and other causes can causes a cascade like chain of events that if not carefully managed can result in adverse long term effects. Repeated concussion can lead to the development of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), involving accumulation of abnormal tau in the brain, severe psychiatric symptoms, and loss of cognitive function. ADMdx is applying machine learning advances to understand trauma-related disease progression and to assist in diagnosis and treatment development.
Other disorders
Neuropsychiatric disorders such as depression, schizophrenia, and autism have been associated with specific regional effects that can be detected using brain imaging. Further, the brain patterns of individuals who respond to one type of therapy can differ from those who respond to other forms of treatment. Parkinson’s disease and other neurodegenerative disorders also involve characteristic changes that can be detected with imaging. ADMdx’ machine learning capabilities can be applied to imaging and non-imaging data to impact diagnosis and treatment in these areas.
